LOCAL AREA AGREEMENTS
What is a Local Area Agreement?
Local Area Agreements (LAA) were first announced in July 2004 as
part of the Government's ten-year strategy to build a new
relationship between central and local government. They are intended to improve co-ordination between central government and local
authorities and their partners, working through the Local
Strategic Partnership. The Stockport Partnership agreed its first Local Area Agreement with the Government in 2006, as part of the second round of the roll-out of LAAs across the country.
In 2007, all local authorities were required by the Government to develop new style Local Area Agreements. The Stockport Partnership prepared an initial submission to the Government in December 2007:
In 2008, the Stockport Partnership agreed 41 improvement targets with Government, complemented by a further 36 local targets which address the issues and challenges identified in the initial submission and the Community Strategy. These targets constitute Stockport's Local Area Agreement with Government.
